Alaska Airlines is starting its longest direct trip, from John F. Kennedy International Airport to Anchorage.
The seasonal trip from New York to Anchorage will be the sole direct route and commence daily operations on June 13, 2024.
A new Boeing 737-800 will fly the 3,386-mile trip, which allows for a longer flight duration.
Alaska Airlines also announced a new nonstop from Anchorage to San Diego on May 18, 2024, in addition to the New York service. This weekly flight will use a Boeing 737.
"During our peak summer days, we'll have 63 departures a day from Anchorage," said Alaska Airlines Regional Vice President.
Alaska Airlines' website and app sell New York-San Diego flights currently.
Alaska Airlines has added flights from Anchorage to Chicago, Denver, Honolulu, Los Angeles, Las Vegas, Minneapolis, Phoenix, Portland, Salt Lake City, San Francisco, Seattle, and Everett. Alaska flies 120+ locations worldwide.
According to State of Alaska statistics, over a million visitors visit Alaska by plane each year, but more than half arrive by cruise ship.
According to Alaska Business, visitors spend over $1.2 billion in 2022 in national parks like Denali and Glacier Bay.
