Angel Reese not with LSU for latest game after Kim Mulkey benching as drama continues

The 2022-23 national champion LSU Tigers will play without their star player, Angel Reese, on Friday night.

The No. 7 Tigers, who are 3-1 after losing their season opener to No. 20 Colorado, play Southeastern Louisiana on Friday without Reese.

This follows Reese's second-half benching in LSU's 109-79 triumph over Kent State on Tuesday.

After 13 first-half minutes, the unanimous first-team All-American scored 11 points and grabbed five rebounds.

LSU coach Kim Mulkey called Reese's halftime benching, when the Lady Tigers led Kent State 39-37 before pulling away in the remaining 20 minutes, a “coach's decision.”

Mulkey told ESPN, “You better get a ticket and see,” when asked Thursday if Reese would start Friday and if Brooklyn native and South Shore High School alum Kateri Poole would play after being benched the entire Kent State game.

LSU's title defense has been rocky, but the squad is off to a winning start against weaker competition.
