Chick-fil-A Is Testing Its First-Ever Veggie Sandwich

Most fast-food restaurants offer veggie burgers and vegetarian alternatives, but Chick-fil-A has focused on chicken.

The iconic Southern chain is releasing its first veggie-focused sandwich, including a cauliflower steak.

Chick-fil-A will test its new Cauliflower Sandwich in Denver, South Carolina, and North Carolina on Feb. 13. Large cauliflower pieces will

replace the chain's iconic chicken and be served similarly. The vegetable will be coated with the brand's flavor and marinated.

Chick-fil-A took their initial vegetarian sandwich development seriously. Over four years, the culinary crew tested every vegetable for this prototype.

"Our culinary team brainstormed and explored everything from mushrooms to chickpeas to chopped vegetables formed into patties,

but we kept coming back to the cauliflower filet," said Chick-fil-A chef Stuart Tracy. Due to its mildness, cauliflower was chosen as a chicken substitute.

This looks like the chain's world-famous chicken sandwich, making it the perfect choice. "Cauliflower is the hero of our new sandwich,

and it was inspired by our original Chick-fil-A Chicken Sandwich," said Leslie Neslage, menu and packaging director.
