It is being seriously thought about by the Dutch government to cut down on the number of planes into Amsterdam's Schiphol Airport in order to clean up the air and reduce noise.
JetBlue Airways is getting ready to fight back even though it just started flying across the Atlantic to Amsterdam last year.
JetBlue said it had asked the Department of Transportation to keep KLM from arriving or taking off at John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York if the Dutch government moves to limit the number of flights at Schiphol.
KLM is the Dutch state airline, and it is against any plans to reduce the number of companies at Amsterdam Airport.
The airline told the Dutch government, "This is very bad for KLM and puts at risk the network that links the Netherlands to the rest of the world."
Starting in 2019, Schiphol Airport will only be able to handle 452,500 flights per year. This is a drop of almost 10% in the number of flights. The exact number of places each airline will have should be known by November 2.
Some companies, like Jet Blue, are looking to see if any limits would go against the Open Skies Agreement.
"If the Dutch Government has the authority to effectively expel newcomer JetBlue from AMS without having any direct and
equal countermeasures from the Department, other governments could choose to follow suit," JetBlue stated.
The Dutch are trying very hard to stop planes from Amsterdam, though.
