Southwest Airlines is bringing back beverage and snack service as airlines worldwide struggle to return to normal.
Southwest will resume in-flight beverages and snacks on flights over 250 miles on Friday, according to its website. Initial offerings include cans of water with straws, a packet of snack mix, and glasses of ice on request. Not serving alcohol.
"Southwest Customers appreciate being offered an alcoholic beverage and snack while flying, so we look forward to providing this modified service while ensuring
the well-being of Customers and Crew by limiting touchpoints within the cockpit during this unprecedented time," said a spokeswoman.
They said the snack combination would contain ranch bagel chips, pretzels, and cheddar cheese pieces.
In March, Southwest suspended in-flight drink and snack service, giving only cans of water on request to decrease flight attendant-passenger interaction.
The airline has increased the use of hospital-grade disinfection in the cabin and toilets and sprayed tray tables, armrests, seat belts, and overhead bin handles before every flight to reassure consumers.
United Airlines announced a “‘all in one’ economy snack bag” with a bottle of water, a Stroopwafel, pretzels, and a sanitizing wipe for domestic flights over 2 hours and 20 minutes this week.
